‘Lekki Port to Generate $200 Billion Revenue, 163, 000 jobs after completion’

The Managing Director, Lekki Port, Lagos Free Trade Zone Enterprise, Mr. Haresh Aswani,  has said that the project would  contribute more than $200 billion to the government as well as the create about 163,000 new jobs in the economy on completion by 2016.

Aswani also said that the Nigerian maritime sector is expected to witness a major boost at the end of the project. The port is to be located in the Lagos Free Trade Zone at Lekki.
A statement quoted Aswani to have said this during a visit by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola to ascertain the level of work at the site.

According to him, the Lekki Port, conceptualised as a multi product industrial and logistics hub, would spread across 90 hectares of land and shall be built at an estimated cost of $1.55 billion.

He explained that the deep-sea port, which will be located 65 km east of Lagos Mainland, shall become the gateway to West African region.

“In addition to bridging the capacity deficit, Lekki Port will have significant positive macroeconomic impact estimated at $361 billion over the entire
concession period. Furthermore, Lekki Port will spur the economic development around the Lekki sub-region and on a wider perspective, the whole of Lagos State through rapid industrialization,” he added.
