An overwhelming majority of members from the PDP’s National
Working Committee dealt an embarrassing setback to the national party chair
when they rescinded the party’s earlier decision to dissolve its Adamawa State
Executive Council.
Party chair Dr. Bamanga Tukur was not present at the time of
the vote to rescind by 10 of the committee’s 12 members.
Intrigue at the PDP Committee led Dr. Tukur to schedule, then
cancel a press briefing organized for Wednesday.
The press briefing was aimed at condemning the actions of
the rebellious 10 NWC members, who scolded Tukur for the crisis going on in the
party in his home state of Adamawa.
Invitations had already been sent out that the briefing
would hold at 10am in his office at Wadata Plaza, headquarters of the
crisis-ridden party.
When he changed his mind, he sent another invitation that
one of his aides would speak on his behalf. However, at the end of the day,
neither he nor any of his aides showed up for the briefing, which was then
cancelled.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan met with the
leadership of the party and the governors, who reportedly pushed for the
removal of Tukur.
The meeting, which was held at the President Villa, Abuja,
was also attended by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo.
