The Adamawa Think Tank, a pressure group in Adamawa State aimed at promoting the political aspiration of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve his ambition of seeking reelection in 2015.
The group said Mr. Jonathan should rather throw his weight behind the aspiration of Mr. Abubakar.
Making the call in Yola, the Adamawa capital, the group’s chairman, Danladi DanAsabe, said that based on constitutional provisions, there seems to be a big hurdle facing the current President’s ambition to vie for the office in 2015.
The Adamawa Think Tank said since the president has a good relationship with the former vice president, “it is imperative for President Goodluck Jonathan to support Atiku Abubakar”.
The group said the former vice president stands in good stead to take over from Mr. Jonathan because after serving as a Vice President for eight years under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr. Abubakar will ensure the continuity of the provision of democracy dividends as contained in the vision of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mr. DanAsabe, a legal practitioner, also said Mr. Abubakar is better qualified for the post of president, because he has been able to build a strong political base with a vision to moving the country forward.
“Atiku Abubakar has already built a political fortress, that accommodates  divergent Nigerians devoid of any kind of rancour and acrimony,” he said.
Mr. DanAsabe said that Mr. Abubakar has the political pedigree that will take Nigeria to the ‘promised land.’
He said that it is only the former Vice-President that can confront the myriad of problems facing the country such as unemployment, and security challenges especially in the northern part of Nigeria.
